Community members work together to develop and implement strategies to address topics such as health care, transportation, economic security and housing. In addition, AGE educates hundreds of people each year through workshops, newsletters and community education forums. Services are provided at no charge. Many of the topics are of interest to those of all age groups, including housing, insurance, economic security, fraud and transportation. Topics targeting the specific needs of an older population include health-related issues such as Medicare, Social Security and nursing home care.  In order to inform seniors about relevant topics and to make sure that the viewpoints of older adults are considered when decisions are made in our community, our staff and volunteers speak to community groups and hold educational forums. In addition, staff and volunteers work with elected officials to inform them about topics of importance to older citizens.  Back to top AGE Council The AGE Council acts as an advocacy group for older adults in the greater Dallas area. A function of the Council is to advise on relevant legislation and comment on other areas of interest to the older community. Council members are also involved in educating others through workshops, forums and presentations on topics directly affecting older adults, their families and people nearing retirement. The First Amendment and The Dallas Morning News Older Adults and the New Age of Banking Back to top Senior Day at the Capital The Texas Senior Advocacy Coalition and groups from all over Texas organized Senior Day at the Capital with the theme "Seniors–the Heart of Texas." Senior Day is an opportunity to celebrate the contributions older adults have made and will continue to make to the state of Texas. The first Senior Day was held February 6, 2001, and attracted 2,500 older adult advocates from throughout Texas. The second Senior Day was held February 4, 2003, with 4,500 advocates attending. Senior Day 2005 will be Tuesday, February 8, 2005. It is not too early to start planning. Please contact the AGE Director if you would like help in planning a group trip or for more information.
